Biography
Augustin Mutijima
Country coordinator
RIU Rwanda
Augustin's professional background is characterised by three but complementary and enriching experiences:
- He started his professional life with organisations and projects working with small farmers in rural areas. Between 1987 and 1994, I worked for an NGO that spearheaded development of farmer cooperatives in Rwanda. Later, he joined agricultural/rural development projects where he served as a Monitoring and Evaluation Officer and thereafter as Director of a GTZ funded project in Southern Province until the 1994 Genocide.
- After the Genocide, Augustin decided to work for the Government of Rwanda where he served for 8 years respectively in three senior positions as Chief of the Planning Department in the Prime Minister’s office; Provincial Governor; and Secretary General in the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development. This was indeed a unique exposure to challenging situations related to the reconstruction of a post-genocide country in its human, social, political and development dimensions.
- After his assignment in public service, Augustin joined the private sector in 2003 and worked as a consultant for different donors/development agencies including IFAD, The World Bank, DFID, FAO, Belgian Cooperation and the Royal Netherlands Embassy. His area of expertise is primarily focuses on policy formulation, project design and evaluation. Augustin joined the RIU Programme in August 2008 and sees this as a new challenging opportunity to which he is committed.
Education
Augustin graduated from the National University of Rwanda/Faculty of Agriculture where he obtained a Degree in Agriculture Engineering in 1987. He also hold a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA/Project Management) obtained in 2007 at Maastricht School of Management.
