Biography
Victor Makasa
Country coordinator
RIU Zambia

He is an agricultural economist (trained at the University of Zambia) and holds a Masters in agriculture and rural development from the University College Dublin (UCD) in Ireland. He has over eight years of agriculture and rural development work experience in Zambia.

He worked as extension methodologist in the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperative from the year 2000 to 2004 where he, among other duties, coordinated the Participatory Extension Approach (PEA) programme supported by the World Bank, before joining the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) supported Agriculture Support Programme (ASP) as district coordinator.

In 2005 Victor worked as ASP team leader for team 1 based in central Zambia. Among other duties, Victor led the team in implementing strategies designed to facilitate transformation of small scale farming from a 'tradition' into a business in targeted areas. He worked to ensure that there was efficient and effective implementation of ASP interventions aimed at increasing food/nutrition security and incomes among rural small scale farmers. He is skilled and experienced in facilitating livelihood interventions including integration of cross-cutting themes such as governance, gender, HIV/AIDS and environment.

Victor is an Agricultural Economist (trained at the University of Zambia) and holds a postgraduate qualification (Masters) in agriculture and rural development from the University College Dublin (UCD) in Ireland.
