NERICA rice and other farmer produced quality seed

Rice has become a priority crop in Ugandan Government strategies because of its potential to curb food insecurity and poverty. The country's best opportunity to significantly reduce imports, and as a relief measure to provide food for returnees to areas formerly affected by civil war, it also has the potential to create employment through production and processing.

This Best Bet project aims to support scaling up, production and delivery of high quality NERICA rice seed varieties by local seed companies, and to implement a marketing strategy to stabilise demand. MORE
