RIU - Research Into Use

Aqua Shops
Overview

The proposal for Aqua Shops was initially submitted to the RIU Best Bets by FARM-Africa. Whilst the project was not selected as a Best Bet, RIU wanted to develop some aspects of the programme, such as the franchise model. It therefore used its commissioned work initiative to add a further aquaculture project to the portfolio (there are also aquaculture initiatives in Malawi and Nigeria). The Aqua Shop initiative will also have some similarities with the work of FIPS-Africa on providing inputs to small-scale farmers.
