Shamba Shape Up
Work programme

RIU's funding agreement related to the production of a pilot of Shamba Shape Up, which was completed in 2007.

Some of the research to be covered in the upcoming series include:

  • integrated pest management (how Napier grass can be intercropped to deter the maize stalk borer)
  • rain water harvesting (affordable methods for catching and storing rain water)
  • how to make and use low-energy stoves (reducing fuel demands)
  • human and animal health issues
  • access and use of micro-finance
  Strategies for feeding smallholder dairy cattle in intensive maize forage production systems
How dairy farmers can improve yields during dry season with simple fodder (silage making)
