Discussion paper 11
Summary
This paper establishes a framework exploring innovation management and presents some initial analysis of the South Asia projects. A key finding in the paper is that project teams, despite the technology transfer narrative of early RIU efforts, have developed sophisticated ways of managing research inputs as part of the wider innovation process. RIU support is merely one form of support that projects are using to allow them to move along innovation trajectories that is characterized by the blending rural development practice, research and policy advocacy. The framework developed in the paper seem to have advantages over the RIU research design in terms of focusing on the actions associated with innovation management and this in turn reveals entry points for policy support.
