Farmers and processor 'over the moon' about new pig markets in Malawi

RIU-supported projects mentioned in House of Commons debate
Heidi Alexander MP used her first adjournment debate in the UK's House of Commons to raise the issue of food security in Africa. In September, Ms Alexander was one of five UK parliamentarians who visited Kenya as part of a group from the All Party Parliamentary Group for Agriculture and Food for Development.

Fair Share of agricultural communication learning
RIU has now reached the point where it increasingly seeks opportunities to share its experiences and what it has learned with others - and in turn to learn from what others are doing. So, when RIU's Keith Sones learned about AgKnowledge Africa's Share Fair, which aimed "to showcase the ways agricultural and rural knowledge in and of Africa is created, shared, communicated, and put to use" he quickly seized the opportunity.

Red Cross partners fleet-of-foot RIU to get Jos farming again
Several months after the emergency response to the January 2010 massacres in villages near Jos, RIU Nigeria was approached by the International Committee of the Red Cross with a request to collaborate with them in supporting the rehabilitation of agricultural livelihoods. The plan was to support some 210 households who had been affected or displaced by violence in communities in Plateau and Bauchi states.
