Armyworm oubreak allows harvest of biological control agent
21 April 2011

Wilfred Mushobozi of Ecoagriconsult Ltd sent RIU these pictures of the current devastating armyworm outbreak in Korogwe District in Tanzania.

Wilfred said:
"Hundreds of hectares of maize were completely wiped out. The farmers have already lost hope for this season's harvest since the replants won't make it before the end of the rain season. So this is very serious for them.

Our team was in Tanzania harvesting SpexNPV from this outbreak. This is the naturally occurring bio-control agent which we will make available to combat future outbreaks of armyworm."
These pictures were taken on 8 April 2011.
