National Innovation Coalition

The National Innovation Coalition (NIC) has been developed by RIU Malawi. Members have been involved in various capacity building initiatives including:

  • the understanding of the Innovation Systems approach
  • development of its own vision, roles and responsibilities
  • selection of core NIC members to provide quick links with RIU Malawi
  • providing oversight for the seed money

Progress
The National Innovation Coalition had 17 members (March 2009). This group has been very instrumental in the development of the commodity Innovation Platforms established. They added livestock as a priority and they helped select the Platform Facilitators and to establish the criteria to assess grants for seed money requested by the commodity Innovation Platforms.

In December 2009 the NIC committed to its role of mainstreaming the lesson emerging from RIU work into national policy debates.
