High yielding varieties of cassava, which produce a crop in eight months and can cope with minimal rainfall, are being adopted by farmers in Kenya's eastern region. Four cassava varieties have been selected by the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute, and are being bulked and sold through Farm Input Promotions Africa (FIPS-Africa). In an integrated approach, the new cassava farmers are also being connected to markets, such as the livestock feed industry, through an NGO, Farm Concern International. Geoffrey Onditi visits a cassava farm, where he speaks to two farmers and the FIPS coordinator.
