RIU - Research Into Use

RIU programmes and research

Ten years of DFID's Renewable Natural Resources Research Strategy (RNRRS) produced a wealth of outputs: technologies, processes and policies designed to enable poor people to better manage their natural resources. During RIU's inception phase, 1600 RNRRS projects were screened to produce a shortlist of 280 research outputs (or clusters of outputs) together with stakeholders' views on impacts to date - Natural Resources Knowledge (NRK). The full set of project reports were then made available within the RNRRS database.

RIU activity has been categorized using seven topic areas; within the larger topic groups information has been clustered under headings – such as "cereal crops" to help to show relationships between different activities.

Activities listed link to related RIU publications and resources, together with relevant information from the RNRRS database. This database will remain static as a historical record of the research produced under the DFID funded programmes.

The topic categories are:

  • Crops, forest products, pest control
  • Livestock production and health
  • Fisheries management, aquaculture
  • Sustainable environments
  • Marketing, processing, storage
  • Partnerships, policy, empowerment
  • Knowledge management and dissemination
